Chiropractic
Care
"The doctor
of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his
patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the
cause and prevention of disease." -
Thomas Edison
What
is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic
is a branch of heathcare that concerns itself with the relationship
between the structure of the body and its function, as it relates
to the nervous system.
- What do
Chiropractors do? Chiropractors examine the spine for vertebral
subluxations (or Subluxation, for short). If a subluxation
is present, your chiropractor will correct it by performing
a spinal adjustment.
- What is
a vertebral Subluxation? A subluxation is a misaligned spinal
bone (vertebra) that can affect sensitive nerve tissue. Subluxations
are often painless.
- How do
subluxations affect health? Subluxations can damage joints,
pinch or irritate nerves, contribute to spinal degeneration
(osteoarthritis), alter organ, muscle and disc function,
decrease your resistance to disease, and disrupt the proper
communication between your brain and your body.
- What is
an adjustment? A chiropractic adjustment is a carefully controlled
and directed pressure applied to a vertebrae in order to
restore its' normal alignment or motion. When vertebrae are
properly adjusted, nervous system function is restored. Adjustments
are painless and are exceptionally safe. In fact, most people
feel a sense of ease and relaxation after receiving an adjustment.
The result is that you live healthier and pain free.
What
causes spinal problems?
The stresses
and strains of everyday living, such as poor posture, sleeping
in an awkward position, slips, falls, sports, gardening and
even housework can cause spinal problems called subluxations.
In children, activities such as learning to walk, play and
even the birthing process can create subluxations. In fact,
most of the problems that we suffer from as adults had their
origins early on in life. Left uncorrected, they progress over
time, setting the stage for a re-emergence of the problem as
a far worse condition. It is therefore essential to correct
these subluxations early on while they
are still easily manageable, in order to prevent more serious
conditions later on.
